Comprehensive Data Governance Strategy for the Municipal Data Office
Challenge
A municipal institution used to manage its systems and applications in isolation, which generated silos of information, duplicated, inconsistent and low quality data. This situation made it difficult to make decisions based on reliable data and limited the strategic value of municipal digital information. It was necessary to define a data governance strategy that would ensure the security, interoperability, standardization and agile use of data through a Municipal Data Office.
Solution
Design and implementation of a comprehensive Data Governance strategy, the cornerstone of which was the implementation of the Municipal Data Office (OMD). This office centralizes data management, establishes a common infrastructure and defines harmonized processes for its exploitation, guaranteeing quality, privacy and security. In addition, a proof of concept was developed to implement concrete mechanisms for interoperability, standardization of information and alignment with organizational objectives.
We implement a comprehensive Data Governance strategy that centralizes, harmonizes and enhances the use of data at the municipal level, eliminating silos and ensuring quality, security and interoperability.
Keys to success
- Creation of the Municipal Data Office with a clear mission, assigned resources and a cross-cutting vision.
- Integral management of the data life cycle, focusing on security, privacy and technological sovereignty.
- Reduction of silos and improvement of interoperability between municipal services.
- Incremental and sustainable approach: a continuous improvement program that evolves with the organization.
